Hi Nancy,
There are so many things for a company to consider. I cannot imagine hiring a person without getting the right guidance! You're ability to provide HR advice must work very well for small companies who don't have an HR person on board. Looking forward to following your blog.

Human Resources is, to me, the most important department of any company. And when it's not handled correctly, it can be the most complex. I admire all the good human resource managers I've met over the years. It takes a certain personality as you need to be very fair, communicate well, bite your tongue at times. Other employees also need to be careful what they say to you.

I look forward to reading all the expanded points in your post here Nancy. Thanks!

Comment on Writing an Employee Handbook: 5 Things you need to know by Nancy Dube

Bob
I appreciateyour feedback about my article writing an employee handbook. One mistake that business owners often make is doing it themselves. One size does not fit all. There are compliance issues based on the size, volume and whether or not you do business with the government. Also, each state has items which require adaptation to meet the law. A business owner is seldom up-to-date on all the changes and how they apply to their handbook. Using an HR Consultant ensures nothing is overlooked and compliance is met. Using an Employment Attorney is an alternative but more costly. Either way - the employee handbook should be reviewed by an expert!

This is excellent practical advice about writing an employee handbook. I especially liked the section about how a handbook can protect you in court. There is certainly enough information here to get you started in writing your own handbook but I’d imagine that the best approach would be to seek the advice of an HR professional like Nancy to make sure the final product covers all the bases.

Yes - Most recently I developed a social media policy for a Physical Therapy business. Understanding the ramifications of social media on your business and ensuring that you are protected from potential liability is essential. I know how to adapt policies to various industries.

Hi Nancy,

Comprehensive article. Great job. I agree yearly reviews of employee handbooks are very important, especially with the fluidity of social media and the emerging consequences it can have on employees.

Do you help companies with this review process?

Nice outline. I expect that with the quick rise of social media, lots of traditional marketing strategies and objectives have to change; social media poicies for example. It's wise of companies to bring in someone with our expertise to get a fresh current outlook. ~ Michelle Fontaine of www.fbsmarty.com

Hi Nancy,
Great job on your commercial above. First time I've seen it. Once I get back to my office and have more bandwidth, I'll look at your others and certainly share the LinkedIn video with my fans.
Take Care!
